Lithuania’s Defence Minister Raimundas Karoblis on Thursday welcomed U.S. plans to ship extra troops to Poland, saying the transfer would improve the safety of all the area.

“Not solely Poland will revenue from the deployment, however all Baltic States,’’ Karoblis advised BNS information company.

U.S. President Donald Trump and his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda introduced plans on Wednesday to extend the U.S. navy presence in Poland by as much as 2,000 further troops.

The forces could also be drawn from these already stationed in Germany or one other location someplace in Europe.

A ultimate determination on troop numbers has not but been introduced.

“We predict the variety of troops attending workouts in Lithuania will improve.

“We predict it would develop and that could be a direct contribution to our safety,’’ Karoblis stated.

NATO member Lithuania and its Baltic neighbours Estonia and Latvia have beforehand underlined their security issues in relation to the continuing Ukraine battle.

Washington already stepped up its navy presence in Poland in 2017 and has some 4,500 troops within the nation on a rotational foundation.
