Deeper Life school: Court directs Don Davis’ mother to stop social media ‘crusade’ ●

The Magistrate Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State warned Deborah Archibong mother of a pupil of Deeper Life High School, Uyo, Don-Davis Archibong, who was allegedly sexually assaulted, to desist from making feedback or posting any materials on the problem on social media, attorneys informed journalists on Wednesday.

The Akwa Ibom State Police command had arraigned seven individuals together with minors in connection with the alleged sexual molestation and maltreatment of one Don-Davis Archibong, a pupil of Deeper Life High School, Idoro, Uyo, two weeks in the past.

They have been arraigned on a four-count cost bordering on conspiracy to commit Felony to wit: indecent remedy of boys beneath fourteen and thereby dedicated an offence punishable beneath part 556 of the felony code, cap.38, Vol.2. Laws of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria, 2000.

The minors have been charged for unlawfully assaulting Don-Davies Archibong punishable beneath part 218(1) of the Criminal code, cap.38, vol.2 Laws of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria, 2000, together with part 362(1) of the Laws of Akwa Ibom State.

Prosecution lawyer David Okokon informed reporters after the courtroom sitting that at the first look in courtroom on January 6, 2021, the plaintiff was warned in opposition to making social media feedback on the problem since it was in the courtroom.

Journalists have been barred from protecting courtroom proceedings on Wednesday.

Mr Okokon mentioned it was normal follow for journalists to be disallowed from protecting circumstances involving minors.

“Procedurally, since it was a juvenile court, journalists were not allowed to observe the proceedings. A juvenile court deserves a jurisprudencial privacy it has,” he mentioned.

Counsel to the defendant Nojin Tairu mentioned; “At the end of the proceedings you will have all the fact and all that transpired in the court.”

The case was adjourned to February 10, 2021 for continuation of listening to.
