Since 2008, football fans have seen the Ballon d’Or award meant for the best male footballer of the year dominated by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. In fact, they have won ten of the last 11 editions of the award, rewriting every record in the books during their careers. 2018 was the first year since 2007 – when Kaka took the award home – that someone other than Messi or Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or. Messi was unstopable — Kloop

Jurgen Klopp admitted Lionel Messi was “unstoppable” on Wednesday after he left Liverpool needing a miracle to reach the Champions League final. Luis Suarez poked in against his former club before Messi hit a late double, the second a stunning free-kick for his 600th Barca goal, as his team took a 3-0 lead from a pulsating semi-final first leg ahead of next week’s return at Anfield. “He’s unstoppable,” said Klopp afterwards. “Obviously we couldn’t defend the free-kick. What a strike. He’s a world-class player but I knew that already. It’s no surprise.” Klopp could only smile after Messi’s curling shot nestled in the top corner but this result was harsh on his side. They matched Barcelona in the first half, dominated them early in the second and could still have left with an away goal after...

Conte Attacks Mourinho Again

Antonio Conte has called on Jose Mourinho to show more respect after he taunted Juventus’ fans during a Champions League group stage clash earlier this season. The now former Manchester United manager waved three fingers in the direction of the travelling fans at Old Trafford back in October, to signify the treble he won while in charge of Inter nine years ago. Conte endured a long-running feud with Mourinho while they were both in Serie A and the animosity continued when the Italian was installed as the Special One’s replacement at Stamford Bridge in 2016. Referring to Mourinho’s gesture earlier this season, Conte said: “He won the treble [with Inter] and three Premier League titles with Chelsea, so I think he is entitled to do that gesture. “However, respect is needed. Both from fans and...

Chelsea Not favourite for Europa cup, Kante

N’Golo Kante says Chelsea are underdogs in their quest to win the Europa League and end Maurizio Sarri’s first campaign at the club on a “beautiful” high. The Blues held off Slavia Prague in their quarter-final tie by claiming a 5-3 aggregate victory, setting up a semi-final with Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt. Sarri has been under immense pressure this season and his team did it the hard way against Slavia, as two quickfire goals from Petr Sevcik early in the second half of Thursday’s second leg saw the Czech side move to within two goals of their opponents, after trailing 5-1 at one stage. Kante admits Chelsea’s failure to see out matches with the minimum of fuss is becoming a problem, but progression to the last four is ultimately all that matt...

The Guardian reports that he has issued a warning to Chelsea that he could leave the club off his own back at the end of the campaign even with a new contract on the table, after growing frustrated with his role under Maurizio Sarri. As per The Guardian, when asked about his future, Giroud responded: “I have no clue about that now. I have t...

what Kloop said about E.hazard

The Reds boss was effusive in his praise for the Blues forward ahead of the pair facing each other in a crucial Premier League encounter on Sunday Chelsea forward Eden Hazard can be the best footballer in the world on his day, according to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, as the two sides prepare to square off in a potentially season-defining clash. The Reds lead the Premier League table by two points, just ahead of incumbent champions Manchester City, with the caveat of having played one game more. As such, it remains imperative for Klopp’s team to take maximum points from all their remaining games in the top flight to give themselves the best chance of claiming a maiden crown. While City face the comparatively easier task of a trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday however, Maurizio Sarri’s Che...

YEKINI & AMOKACHI; EVERGREEN FOOTBALL LEGENDS UNVEILED

YEKINI& AMOKACHI: EVERGREEN FOOTBALL LEGENDS UNVEILED The commencement of the Nigerian Professional League in 1990 was meant to be the start of an era of top Nigerian football stars, and the attraction of foreign (African) talent that would, in turn lure football fans to the stadium where they would get value for their money. I remember vividly in 1990 when Obanta United Football Club played their home games in Ijebu-Ode and the day Shooting Stars of Ibadan came visiting, the township stadium was filled to capacity. The main attraction, Felix Owolabi, also known as “Owo blow” was in the heat of the action for the Oluyole warriors, and the match became the talking point for football fans for many days and weeks. That game gave me the opportunity to watch the football maestro...
