See Why Super Eagles Coach Dunped Kelechi Iheanacho

Leicester town forward Kelechi Iheanacho must be more committed if he wishes to return to the Super Eagles, according to coach Gernot Rohr.

Iheanacho has been neglected of the Eagles games against Seychelles and Egypt in Asaba.

“We don’t seem to be satisfied with his recent performances. He should be more professional, it’s not good enough to be all the time funny. you have got to be serious. He should be more serious in training,” demanded Rohr.

“He should do this if he desires to show he wants to come back in his club and also with us.”

The Eagles coach additionally said Iheanacho can use the FIFA window to show new Leicester city boss Brendan Rodgers he ought to be in the starting XI of the Premier League club.

“He must show his new manager at his club that he desires to get back to the first team of Leicester,” he explained.

Nigeria U17 coach Manu Garba, who gave Iheanacho his 1st breakthrough in international football, has also insisted the forward should work on his attitude to be back in serious reckoning for both club and country.

EPL: Manager Wenger wanted to replace him at Arsenal revealed

Arsene Wenger has told the Arsenal board that Carlo Ancelotti was his preferred choice to succeed him as manager.

Wenger left the Premier League club after 22 years at the end of last season and Unai Emery was appointed as his successor.

But, according to Rai Sports reporter, Ciro Venerato, Ancelotti was open to joining Arsenal and had the backing of Wenger.

“I’ll tell you a behind-the scenes story dating back to last summer when Arsene Wenger indicated Carlo Ancelotti as his possible heir and successor on the Arsenal bench.

“Carlo Ancelotti, as you know, has a Canadian wife and the whole family lives in London. So he was interested.

“Arsenal then chose Unai Emery and at that point Carlo Ancelotti signed for Napoli.

“But he has not forgotten that Arsenal rejected him,” Venerato told TV Luna’s ‘Goal Show’.

Brighton & Hove coach Chris Hughton has sent a message to Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, urging him to play defender Leon Balogun in Friday’s Africa Cup of Nations group E qualifier against Seychelles and the international friendly against Egypt in Asaba, Delta State.

Balogun who is coming back from a shoulder injury and according to Hughton he needs those games to regain his match fitness.

‘’The good thing, particularly with the cup run, is the players that haven’t featured so much have at least had games,’’  Hughton said to Brighton’s official website.

“Leon Balogun, for example, is going away on international duty with Nigeria and we’re hoping he plays both matches.” Balogun has gone the distance in seven of the last eight Super Eagles international matches; the central defender was not in the team that played out a goalless draw with Uganda.

Unhappy’ Sanches considering leaving Bayern Munich

Euro 2016 winner Renato Sanches says he is considering leaving Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich at the end of the season because of a lack of playing time.

The Portuguese midfielder joined the club as an 18-year-old in 2016 for 35 million euros ($39.9m) — a Bundesliga record for a teenager.

“I’m not happy here,” he told magazine Kicker.

Bayern signed Sanches to great fanfare after he helped Portugal win the European Championship title in France and was voted the tournament’s best young player.

However, he has only ever been used sporadically by Bayern and spent last season on loan at Swansea, where he played only 12 Premier League games after labouring with a leg injury.

Sanches has started just four Bundesliga matches this term under Bayern head coach Niko Kovac.

“I do a lot of work, but I am not allowed to play,” complained Sanches, with Javi Martinez, Thiago Alcantara and Leon Goretzka above him in the pecking order.

Sanches says he must decide “what is best for me. I want to play more, perhaps with another club. I have to give it some thought”.

During the January transfer window, French giants Paris Saint-Germain expressed an interest in Sanches, but Kovac did not want to release him.

EPL: Arsenal star told to emulate Chelsea loanee, Victor Moses

Former Arsenal defender, Rhys Weston has advised midfielder, Ainsley Maitland-Niles to emulate Chelsea loanee, Victor Moses by making the Gunners right wing-back position his own.

Maitland-Niles is mainly a central midfielder but has been deployed as a right wing-back and fullback by Arsenal manager, Unai Emery for the most part of this season so far.

But Weston believes the England U20 World Cup-winning star can be a key player for Arsenal, just as Moses was for Chelsea when they won the Premier League title in the 2016-2017 season after former Super Eagles star was asked to fill in as a right wing-back by former Blues manager, Antonio Conte.

”The frustrating thing is, as a young lad trying to make your way, you don’t always get given the opportunity but he’s got an opportunity now with the unfortunate circumstances with Hector Bellerin being out long-term,” Weston said on Ian Stone’s Comedy Breakfast.

”I think wing-back suits him. If you asked him he’d rather play in the holding midfield position but he and Kolasinac are far better when they have got space in front of them.

”It’s a bit like when Victor Moses was converted to a wing-back under Conte at Chelsea, his whole game changed and the whole dynamic changed.”

Lionel Messi ‘To Cut Short’ Argentina International Return

The Barcelona star is making his first return to international football since being part of the side that was knocked out of last summer’s World Cup by eventual winners France in the last-16 stage.

Argentina face Venezuela at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano Stadium – the venue for this season’s Champions League final – on Friday evening.

Messi – who has been training with his teammates at Real Madrid’s Valdebebas training ground this week – is scheduled to play in that game, but will then reportedly return to Barcelona and not feature in the friendly against Morocco in Tangier on Tuesday next week.

Meanwhile, Cesar Luis Menotti – the man who coached Argentina to their first World Cup triumph in 1978 – has voiced his concern over the emotional load placed on Messi when he is with his national side.

“I see him with important emotional fatigue between the Champions League and the national team. I see him very tired.

“If he wants to play with Argentina, better.”

Juventus opt for Asian pre-season amid Ronaldo US rape claims

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus will play the pre-season International Champions Cup in Asia and not in the United States amid the Portugal star’s rape investigation there, the New York Times has reported.

Most of the matches take place in the United States but organisers are planning to play Juventus’ elsewhere amid Ronaldo’s legal case, eliminating the risk of the Portuguese star being detained by authorities in the US as part of their investigations, the newspaper reported.

Juventus have confirmed their participation in the event with the official programme to be unveiled on March 27.

Juventus’ games will “mostly likely be in China and Singapore”, where they will be joined by Premier League teams Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, the New York Times said.

Ronaldo, 34, has denied allegations made by former model Kathryn Mayorga that he sexually assaulted her in Las Vegas in 2009.

Las Vegas police asked Ronaldo to submit a DNA sample in January as part of their investigation into rape allegations made against him.

Contacted by AFP, a spokeswoman for Juventus said that “going east to Asia was normal after spending recent preseasons in the United States”.

Juventus signed the five-time Ballon d’Or winner for 100 million euros ($117 million) last summer from Real Madrid and pay him a 31-million-euro annual salary.

The team are on track for an eighth consecutive Italian league title, while his hat-trick against Atletico Madrid sent them through to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, rejoined his Portugal team-mates this week ahead of Euro 2020 qualifying, as they begin their title defence, following a nine-month absence from the national team.

Ronaldo Avoids Champions League Ban

Cristiano Ronaldo has avoided a Champions League suspension after UEFA announced his punishment for his celebration in the aftermath of Juventus’ win over Atletico Madrid.

Ronaldo scored a hat-trick in the second leg of Juve’s last-16 clash with the Rojiblancos, and celebrated by mocking Diego Simeone’s own celebration from the first leg when the Atleti boss intended to illustrate the ‘cojones’ his team had shown in their own 2-0 victory.

UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings against Ronaldo on Monday for the gesture, and have decided a €20,000 is punishment enough for the Portugal international.

That is in line with Simeone’s own punishment, with the Argentine fined the same amount by the European governing body ahead of the clash in Turin.

Ronaldo, therefore, will be free to face Ajax in the quarter-finals of the competition as he continues his quest to win a fourth straight Champions League title and a sixth overall.

The former Real Madrid superstar had struggled to make an impact in Europe for the Bianconeri ahead of his Atletico heroics, scoring just one goal in the group stages having been sent-off against Valencia on matchday one.

But in netting a treble to knock out Simeone’s side, he looks to be finding form at the ideal time ahead of the latter stages of the competition.

Since arriving in Italy the 34-year-old has scored 24 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions, with Massimiliano Allegri’s side 15 points clear at the top of the Serie A table and set to win an eighth straight Scudetto.

But it is the Champions League for which Ronaldo was bought during the summer of 2018, and he is unlikely to take Ajax for granted having seen the Eredivisie outfit knock out his former Madrid team-mates in the last-16.

Erik ten Hag’s side pulled off the surprise result of the round as they won 4-1 at Santiago Bernabeu to win 5-3 on aggregate over the 13-time winners.
