Cathay Pacific discounts: Airline promises to honour tickets mistakenly sold for £535 instead of £12,000

Cathay Pacific has promised to honour discounted first class and business class flights which were mistakenly sold at a fraction of their true value.

The airline was offering Vietnam to New York tickets at £535 ($675). The price in September had been £12,700 ($16,000).

Other flights from Vietnam to US airports were also offered at drastically reduced rates.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Cathay Pacific owned up to the error and promised those who took advantage of the “offer” that their tickets will still be accepted.

The company said: “Happy 2019 all, and to those who bought our good – VERY good surprise ‘special’ on New Year’s Day, yes – we made a mistake but we look forward to welcoming you on board with your ticket issued. Hope this will make your 2019 ‘special’ too!”

It’s not known how many people purchased the cut-price tickets.
