Ingredients for Dough:
500 grams of Flour
250 grams of Margarine/Butter
2 Teaspoon of Baking powder.
Pinch of salt
1/4 cup of water.
4 Eggs (Optional)
Filling Ingredients:
1/2kg of minced meat.
3 medium sized Irish potatoes.
3 medium sized Carrots.
2 table spoons of Thyme
2 table spoons of flour.
1 Onion (optional)
1 cooking spoon of groundnut oil.
2 maggi cubes
Salt to taste and
A cup of water
Others necessary things:
Dough cutter/Plate cover
Clean table.
Preparing the Dough.
Mix the flour, Baking powder and Salt very well.
Then add the magarine/butter and mix properly.
Add 3 eggs (optional) and mix all properly.
Then u add water bit by bit and mix well. Be careful not to pour too
much water.
Knead the Dough until u get a thick and non sticky dough.
Then u wrap in white plastic and leave it in the fridge to cool for 30
While waiting for the dough to cool, break the 4th egg into a small
plate, whisk and set aside.
Filling Method:
Dice your carrot and potatoes and set aside.
Place a pot on fire, then add the vegetable oil. Add ur Onion
(optional) and then your washed minced meat and stir thoroughly
until it changes colour. Then add the diced potato and carrot. Add
your cup of water, thyme, maggi and salt to taste. Cover the pot
until it is cooked.
While waiting for it to cook, mix the 2 table spoons of flour in water
to get milky texture. When the filling is cooked, add the mixed flour
and stir very well. Your filling is ready.
Method of baking the Meat Pie:
Take out the Dough from the fridge. Pour little piece of flour on the
clean table. Cut into smaller pieces and roll to flatten on the table.
Use the Dough cutter or plate cover and cut circles. The size of
your circle will determine the size of the meat pie.
Now scoop up to 1-2 table spoons of the filling into the middle of
the cut out dough, making sure there is space remaining to seal it.
Brush one half of the circle with the whisk egg and carefully fold
over the dough, making sure the 2 end touches one another. Close
the edges with the tip of the fork.
Repeat the same process for the remaining dough and filling.
Put on the oven and place at 200°, 180° depending on the type of
Place a foil on the Baking pan and rub it with oil. You can also
place the oil directly on the pan. This stops the meat pies from
sticking on the pan when done.
Egg wash the meat pie i.e rub the whisked egg on the bottom of
each of the meat pies and pinch each with a fork.
Place on the oven and leave for 20-30 mins.
Your delicious Meat Pie is ready for consumption.
Serve hot or cold with chilled drink of your choice.
