Open Letter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris—Nelson Ekujumi

IGP, Governor Ayodele Fayose Must Not Escape Justice
With utmost humility sir, I have the authority of the governing
board of the Committee for the Protection of Peoples Mandate
(CPPM) which is a civil society organization with focus on good
governance and upholding the rule of law in our national life, to
bring to your notice for urgent action, a matter of national
In less than 48 hours from now, the governor of Ekiti State, Mr.
Peter Ayodele Fayose would hand over power constitutionally to
his successor and by implication, his immunity from criminal
prosecution for violations of the constitution of Nigeria would lapse
and no longer be in effect, therefore, just like the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) which has placed him on the
security watch list for arrest and prosecution, we are calling on
your office to immediately place Mr. Fayose on surveillance for
arrest and prosecution for crimes alledgedly committed before he
became the governor of Ekiti State.
Sir, we know for a fact, that the constitutional responsibility of your
office, demands that you uphold the provisions of the constitution
of the Federal Republic of Nigeria through arrest and prosecution
of law violators and we demand you remain focused on it without
fear or favour.
It is in this vein, that as a patriotic organization with focus on its
role of promoting a peaceful and orderly society where no violator
(s) of the law will escape justice, are calling on your office, to
ensure the arrest and prosecution of Mr. Ayodele Fayose after the
expiration of his tenure in less than 48 hours from now for the
alledged crimes of Ekitigate, Dasukigate, etc.
It is public knowledge of the role of Mr. Ayodele Fayose in the
criminality committed before and during the 2014 Ekiti State
gubernatorial election via the leaked audio tape called Ekitigate in
2014 and the investigative report of abuse of national security
funds called Dasukigate, that Mr. Ayodele Fayose was an alleged
conspirator and suspect in the crime of money laundering of
security votes from the office of the former national security
adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (Rtd.) through Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro,
a fellow accomplice amongst others during the administration of
former President Goodluck Jonathan.
IGP, we are making this call now as a corrective measure in view
of the damage done to our national psyche, values and democracy
by alledged criminals occupying our exalted national institutions
and desecrating it.
We call for constructive engagement between the Nigeria Police
Force, EFCC and other sister security agencies on this matter of
urgent national importance for the sake of justice, honour of our
public institutions and democracy.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
