Seven operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have been arrested in reference to a plot to smuggle former Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT) chairman AbdulRasheed Maina out of the anti-graft company’s custody.
They are present process investigation together with a lady, Zainab Abbas, to find out their involvement within the plot. Maina is being detained by the anti-graft company which is probing him for alleged N2.1 billion fraud.
An official of the company alleged on Monday that Zainab Abbas, who visited Maina, coordinated the failed try and spirit Maina out of custody.
According to the supply, the seven EFCC males had been on responsibility when the plot was to be carried out. The supply added: “Intelligence was obtained concerning the plot on October 17.
“That evening, one Zainab Abbas was smuggled into the guests’ space to satisfy with Maina. She was along with her phone.
“She was alleged to be making efforts to acquire some purported army personnel to execute the plan to get Maina out in a commando fashion.

The supply added: “The Acting Chairman of EFCC has ordered further safety measures round Maina within the facility the place he’s.
