The Buhari administration has recognized and apologized for the mistakes made in posting late Senator Francis Okpozu and two others among executives and individuals from sheets of government offices and parastatals.
The President’s representative, Malam Garba Shehu conceded the blunders and said “no human endeavor can be free of oversights”.
He said the mistakes related to the rundown were insufficient to depict the activity as shocking, demanding that “there is no embarrassment”.
The President’s representative clarified that the names of dead deputies in the rundown came to fruition in light of the fact that the rundown had been ordered by the previous Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir David Lawal.
Garba Shehu said “the rundown has a history” which clarified the contention around it.
He stated, “In 2015, Mr. President asked for all state sections of the gathering to submit names of 50 party individuals for board arrangements,” Shehu said.
He said the names where arranged by the national secretariat of the APC and sent to the then secretary to the administration of the alliance, Babachir Lawal.
“In any case, dissension emerged from a few governors who felt they were not conveyed along all the while. To answer this, the president constituted a board of trustees under the VP to survey and mirror the enthusiasm of the governors”.
Shehu said activity was postponed on the report of the advisory group headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as President Muhammadu Buhari took sick.
“The president’s treks for therapeutic consideration backed off finish of the procedure.
“The current SGF was just coordinated to finish that procedure by discharging the rundown which he evidently managed without changing it,” Mallam Shehu clarified.
Three names of dead people were contained in the rundown. Among them was Senator Francis Okpozo. He was named executive of the Nigerian Press Council.
Okpozo, a Second Republic Senator from Delta state kicked the bucket in December 2016 at 81 years old. President Muhammadu Buhari sent a letter of sympathy to the family and lauded him for championing social equity in the Niger Delta, amid his long history of administration to the general population.
Boss Donald Ugbaja, designated an individual from the Consumer Protection Council (CPC), kicked the bucket on the 29th of November, 2017.
Reverend Christopher Utov who was designated individual from the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research, kicked the bucket in March of 2017.
President Muhammadu Buhari had set up in October 2015 a Presidential Committee headed by the previous SGF, Babachir Lawal to prescribe individuals to be designated to government sheets and organizations. Individuals from the board were drawn from the six geo-political Zones of the Federation.
The individuals were Alhaji Mai Mala Buni (upper east), Alhaji Zakari Ede (northcentral), Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir (northwest), Chief Hillard Etagbo Eta (south-south), Chief Pius Akinyelure (southwest), Chief Emmanuel Eneukwe (southeast) and Mr. Gideon Sammani, a senior exceptional collaborator to the president as secretary
In November 2016, President Buhari expelled Babachir from headship of the board of trustees, following a few claims made against Babachir.
VP Osinbajo was requested to assume control. The director of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agencies (NDLEA) Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah was additionally delegated to head the secretariat of the board of trustees.
Some portion of Osinbajo’s command was to meet every one of the partners, including the Senate President Bukola Saraki, House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara, Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) Chairman Abdulaziz Yari, APC Governors Forum Chairman Rochas Okorocha and delegates of the governors in each of the six geopolitical zones.
