Unexpected things all overprotective parents do

Share

Naturally, every parent out there tends to worry about their children but there should be a limit to fusing an unnecessary anxiety over kids. This ensures they have optimum psychological growth and don’t feel stifled in the home.
So, what are those habits overprotective parents do that you need to steer clear of?
They’re too protective
That’s the point right? The fact that overprotective parents feel the urge to shield their little ones from any form of pressure, make decisions for them, kick stressors out of their life even if it comes in form of their peers, teachers, etc. These acts only smother your kids and do not prepare them for the real life out there.
Feel responsible for their every emotion
Children should be allowed to experience or feel diverse emotions and feelings, it is all part of growing up and they learn how to handle their emotions while at it. Protecting your kids from unpleasant or negative feelings might not necessarily do them any good since you wouldn’t always be there for them 24/7. Hence, they should be given their own breathing space.

You dictate their hobbies and activities
You’re being a tad overprotective if you are not flexible with the activities your kids go for; keeping your kids busy all the time with stuff they don’t find fun or interesting won’t do them any good. Children should be allowed some independence in order to explore boundaries and discover their passions and interests.
I need to push my kids to succeed
Because some other kids in your child’s class achieved a particular feat, you feel your child can beat the record. It is really nice you’re wanting your child to excel in everything but every parent needs to come to terms with the fact that their little one is different in terms of abilities and interests and so they might not make distinctions where one of their classmates had aces. Parents should understand their kids enough to know what they excel in and help them do better rather than seeing their every mistake as a failure and pushing them hard to succeed just to maintain face in the society.
