UNITY PARTY OF NIGERIA

The unity party of Nigeria emerged as the first political party after the military lifted the ban on political activities. The party was formed on 22 September 1978 by Chief Obafemo Awolowo, UPN was dominant in the western region and majority of its members were members of Action Group of first republic such as Chief Adekunle Ajasin, Alhaji lateef Jekande, Chief Bola Ige, Chief Bisi Onabanjo, Professor Ambrose Alli, Chief Philip Umeadi, Chief MCK Ajuluchukwu, Chief S.M Afolabi, Chief J.S OLawoyin etc.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF UNITY PARTY OF NIGERIA

  1. Free education at all level
  2.  Free health service for all citizens
  3.  Full and gainful employment for all the able bodied citizens
  4.  Integrated rural development

ACHIEVEMENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF UNITY PARTY OF NIGERIA

  1. The party won gubernatorial election in five state of Lagos, Ondo, Bendel Oyo and Ogun in 1979
  2.  UPN acted as opposition party to ruling NPN
  3.  The party implemented the four cardinal point programs successfully to the satisfaction of the citizens
  4. the party produce eminent politicians for Nigeria
  5.  The party was the first political party to be created in the second republic
  6.  The party also helps in raising political consciousness
