We are dedicated to fighting bad governance – Ibom Pillars

Ibom Pillars, a Pan-Akwa Ibom socio-political organisation, has
held her inaugural meeting with members expressing commitment
to be an intellectual platform for brainstorming and formulation of
tangible ideas and strategies aimed at “accelerating the
emancipation of Akwa Ibom people from bad governance.”
Declaring the meeting open, convener of the forum, Distinguished
Senator Alloysius Etok, disclosed that Ibom Pillars is an
assemblage of intellectually minds who share the belief that “the
All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State can be guided
in the task of delivering the state from bad governance.”
Senator Etok, a veteran politician and immediate past Senator
representing Akwa Ibom North West in Nigeria’s Senate, said the
group will chart a new course in the political trajectory of Akwa
Ibom State as well as change the dynamics of political discourse.
“This dream cannot be realized unless we work together. The
dream will surely come to reality because we are guided by the
objective of quickening the emancipation of Akwa Ibom people.
The people will witness a turnaround in their fortunes. We are not a
conventional political support group; we are more of a think-tank,
we will offer direction. Ours is to change the dynamics of political
discourse. I hereby solicit for the cooperation of all in this project”,
he declared.
He urged members to act as pillars to the APC and divulged that
plans are underway for the official inauguration of the group.
Making their contributions to the discourse, the State Chairman of
the APC, Mr. Ini Okopido saluted members for their foresight in
joining forces for the sake of the party and Akwa Ibom people,
saying he is happy to identify with the group.
Mr. Okopido, who was accompanied to the meeting by the Deputy
APC Chairman, Dr. Ita Udosen and other chieftains of the party,
stated that the mission of Ibom Pillars is in tandem with his
blueprint as Chairman of the party in the state and promised to
assiduously support the group.
In his remark, a former member representing Ikot Abasi Federal
Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Akpan Micah
Umoh, aligned with the aims and objectives of the group.
He implored Akwa Ibom people to be ready for good governance
“because this state is ripe enough for change.”
A former member representing Abak Federal Constituency in the
House of Representatives, Obong Ekperikpe Ekpo, equally aligned
to the philosophy of the forum, saying “it marks a departure from
the norm.”
Ekpo said the forum will offer proper political orientation to the
electorates.
On his part, former member representing Eket Federal
Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. (Barr.) Bassey Dan
Abia Jnr. said the formation of the group marks the beginning of
the end of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom
State.
He said the forum has formulated plans to be utilized before (pre-
election), election and post-election periods.
Barr. Abia while assuring APC of maximum support in Eket Federal
Constituency, called on all eligible voters in Akwa Ibom to keep
faith in the APC.
Also speaking, Hon. Samuel George Frank, the NDDC
Commissioner for Akwa Ibom State, said the philosophy of Ibom
Pillars matches with the yearnings of the populace and challenged
members not to deviate from it.
He promised to contribute his quota to the success of the forum.
Other speakers including Otuekong Sunny Jackson, Chief Okon
Osung, Barr. Effiong Okpo, Barr. Ini Ekpo, Dr. (Mrs.) Umoh
Ekanem, Sir Cosmas Udofia, amongst others, were upbeat on the
chances of the APC in 2019. According to them, the party is good
platform for the realisation of the dreams of the Akwa Ibom
people.
Chief Okon Osung particularly advised the newly elected executive
of APC in the state to be guided by the principles of truth,
transparency and fairness.
Speaking with newsmen after the meeting, the convener, Senator
Aloysius Etok expressed happiness over the successful conduct of
the inaugural meeting and commended members for attending
despite the short notice.
“I feel very elated and glad that the dream I conceived has been
embraced by the people. I am happy that the have found it fit to
buy into the cardinal objective of Ibom Pillars. Ibom Pillars will
help the APC unseat the inept government at the Hilltop Mansion”
he concluded.
