On 6th April 1979, Solomon Mahlangu (22) was hanged to death at
the Pretoria Central Prison, South Africa for his role in the Freedom
His last Words were:
“My blood will nourish the tree that will bear the fruits of freedom.
Tell my people that I love them. They must continue the fight.”
Solomon Mahlangu was a South African ANC freedom fighter. He
had some military training in Mozambique and Angola.
He is remembered every year. Solomon Mahlangu is
commemorated in the Solomon Mahlangu Freedom Square in his
hometown of Mamelodi, Pretoria, SA. The square is focused on a
bronze statue of Mahlangu. Many universities, schools, colleges,
and roads have been named after him in South Africa,
Mozambique, Tanzania, and Angola.
